TIPPERARY
TECHNOLOGY PARK
Shannon
Development Company is currently in the process of developing
Tipperary Technology Park which is located in Bawntameena, Nenagh
Road, Thurles. A 5,000
sq.ft. Business Incubator Unit already exists on site and
construction of a 20,000 sq.ft office building will begin in August
2001. The incubator
unit and office building have “state of the art”
telecommunications infrastructure.
This
£3m initiative positions Thurles as a credible location for the
development and attraction of knowledge based industry and will play
a major role in the future development of the town.
Already the project is attracting a lot of attention
particularly in the Dublin Region and there is growing confidence
that SME’s in that Region are beginning to see the advantages of a
Thurles location

 |
| To
set the project in context, the development of the Tipperary
Technology Park is part of a regional approach being adopted by
Shannon Development to position the Shannon Region to successfully
compete in the current knowledge-based global economy.
The Company views the provision of strong centres of
technology orientated facilities and expertise, or what is termed
‘Technology Nodes’, at key locations around the Region as being
a very important part of its regional development mandate.
For
over four years Shannon Development has been working with representatives
of Tipperary Institute to develop a common vision for the Tipperary
Technology Park, and to ensure that the expertise of both bodies, and
other major players such as IDA Ireland, is focussed on maximising the
impact of the Technology Park. From
an operational point of view, there are already strong links between the
Institute and Shannon Development and these will be further built on and
strengthened in the months and years ahead.

IDA
Ireland has expressed its full support for the Tipperary Technology Park
initiative, and they confirm that the combination of good industrial
telecommunications infrastructure, and the availability of skilled
graduates and supports from the Tipperary Institute will greatly increase
the chances of locating FDI project in Thurles.
As
well as high quality accommodation and telecommunications infrastructure,
eligible projects locating in Tipperary Technology Park are offered the
full range of grant and other supports.
